What would you do . . . if no one believed you? if no one believed in you? if no one wanted you around anymore? If you were only six?

I got the Kindle version of this book during a promotional period, free of charge, and read it over the course of a day and a half. Since I did get it for free, I felt it was my duty to repay the author's kindness by leaving a review.

I enjoyed this book. I had started reading it under the assumption that it was a true biography/memoir, as these are my favorite types of books to read. I was a little turned off in the beginning, however, when we are told that the story is part biography and part fiction with some "Aspects, events in this story which I would wish were untrue, are true. Aspects, events of this story which I would wish were true, are entirely made-up." It was impossible to know throughout the story which events were true and which were not. As a result, I resolved to treat the entire story as one of fiction trying to remember that, for the most terrible events, a real person did experience them, sadly.

With the above in mind, I still found myself getting attached to the story and feeling really bad for everyone involved in this lifelong saga. Obviously, I felt for the Lucretia as no child/woman/human being should have to endure all of the things she did. My heart really went out to Bob and the kids involved as they were innocent casualties created when a child turned teen turned adult, had yet to emotionally and mentally work through her past experiences. The story grabbed me and kept me anticipating what delemma they were going to face next. Their lives all seemed like an endless series of unfortunate events that were beyond their control. The ending, however was too abrupt for me. I was shocked by the final revelation and who had caused some of her later misfortunes. The ending seemed hurried and rushed compared to the, sometimes, overly descriptive details in the rest of the book.

There were several grammatical errors throughout the book. A handful of sentences ended in what seemed like mid-sentence and didn't make sense at all. It was almost as if someone was interrupted in the editing and forget where they left off, moving to the next part of the book. I seriously doubt that they were intentional. One of my biggest pet peeves in any kind of writing, formal or informal, is the improper use of homophones. Several times, the word "to" was used when it should have been "too". Overall, these types of things can be overlooked even though they are annoying and slow down a picky reader.

With all of that said, I did enjoy the story and would recommend it. It is a good read.
